All of the sense and silliness set in print of poems performed at Stori’s fabulous Open Mic Night.
Poems about all sorts of things, like dogs, love, the vampires at the Council and loss, knobs and what shopping’s like for blokes.
And cavemen feeling sorry for us.
These poems started life as poems to be performed, best consumed after a couple of beers, and have ended up on paper.
Because hearing ’em once is never enough!
And it’s also a tribute to Stori, the people and the opportunity to let these ideas come to life.
There’s also some glorious illustrations.
Before you go…we are working hard to make sure that our books are in small and independent bookshops so please support us. Thanks…
Here’s a couple of reviews of this lovely book:
Poetry to Savour
I’ve been to Stori many times but never the open mic. I mainly prefer music at these type of events as the poetry is invariably po-faced, pretentious, earnest – or just beige. The poems in this collection are definitely none of the above – off the top of my head I’d say they were… poignant, funny, topical, incisive, daft, thought-provoking, knob-praising. It’s great that these poems have been collected into a book so that they can be savoured not just half-heard once through a Geipel-induced brain fog in a noisy room. If you think poetry’s not for you, try this book as it might just change your mind – and you may even find yourself heading to Bala on the third Friday of the month.
Poems from ‘the great Open Mic that is life’
A funny, insightful and moving collection of poems, originally written for the legendary open mic night at Stori – a bar in the town of Bala in North Wales. For lovers of open mic nights in small towns everywhere! Packed with poems about ‘the great Open Mic that is life’ – poems about men, lads, dogs, rain, knobs, flags, love, loss, 1485, soldiers, jackdaws, ironing boards, shopping, learning Welsh, fennel seeds (my favourite), and much, much more. So glad to have this on my shelf!
